Coach's Corner
The Coaches vs. Cancer tournament was a great success. Not only did the WBB team win the tournament and pick up the first two victories of the season (74-71 vs. Marygrove and 101-40 vs. Webster), but the tournament also provided an opportunity to highlight two student-centered activities focused on cancer education and fundraising.
Dr. Paula Stickles University Seminar class has been working all semester on our campus to increase awareness about and raise funds to fight breast cancer. Pink flamingoes, pink bracelets, pink (and blue) t-shirts all have been a way of supporting their project. During the weekend tournament, Dr. Stickles and members of her class “managed” the game and sold pink bracelets. By the conclusion of the tournament, her class had raised over $175 dollars and sold over $100 pink bracelets to fans attending the tournament. Thank you members of the IN140 seminar class. http://faculty.millikin.edu/~pstickles/IN140_11.htm
The Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity (Illinois Delta Chapter) created an event last year called “Rock the Campus for the Cure”, a day of music, food, and fun to raise awareness and funds to support the American Cancer Society. Brothers from the Millikin SAE chapter volunteered for our Coaches vs. Cancer tournament and shared information about their event, which will happen again during the warmer months of the spring semester. Thanks gentlemen for your service.

Lindsay Ippel and Tracie Yantis were named to the five-member All-tournament team of the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament. For her efforts, Lindsay also was named the CCIW Player of the Week.
During the opening game of the season (Friday, Nov. 17), the Millikin community recognized and honored our Veterans. Thanks to Sarah Johnson, a Millikin University Service Learning Scholar, who organized the reception and the entire event. What a great thrill to watch the crowd give our veterans a long standing ovation. There were many goosebumps and few dry eyes in the gym as we took a few minutes to reflect on the dedication and service of our veterans. Thanks to each and every veteran and their families for your service, dedication, and commitment to keep our country safe and free.
