Coach's Corner

Captain’s conditioning has officially begun and what a great job our captains (Andrea Riebock and Lindsay Ippel) are doing!  Sprinting, stretching, icing, lifting, stretching, icing, scrimmaging, stretching, icing….you get the picture.

The team is currently working on two service projects:  Little Hoopsters and participation in the American Diabetes Association Walk.

Little Hoopsters

A collaborative project with the Decatur Indoor Sports Center (DISC), the women’s basketball team will be leading (for the second straight year) a youth clinic for six weeks designed to teach youngsters ages three through sixth grade the “fun” and fundamentals of basketball.  The entire team will participate and group leaders include:  Ally James (3-5 yr. Olds); Roni Dixon and Shar Tate (1st -2nd) grade; and Andrea Riebock 3rd-6th grades.  (More info and pictures to follow in subsequent newsletters.)

 

 

American Diabetes Association Walk

The Millikin Big Blue Softball team stepped forward with an invitation for the Women’s Basketball team to join their team in the Diabetes Walk to be held in Fairview Park on Saturday, September 30, 2006.  The teams are joining together to honor Jessica Kirincich, a Big Blue softball and basketball player who is living with diabetes.  (Watch for more info and pictures in the future.)

Special Olympics

Several members of the Millikin Women’s basketball program volunteered during the Special Olympics Festival weekend in Decatur (September 9-10).  The Big Blue women’s basketball team supported the Special Olympians in golf; what a humbling, worthwhile endeavor.

Two members of the women’s basketball team have been elected to serve on the campus-wide SAAC group:  Andrea Riebock and Ally James.  Congratulations to both as being recognized not only as leaders in athletics, but across campus as well.
