Assistant Coach Rachel Smith

Rachel Smith, a native of Shelbyville, graduated from Illinois College in May 2007 with a degree in Sports Management. No stranger to coaching, Smith has experience at both the junior high and high school levels and has volunteered at summer camps and Special Olympics events. Since her college graduation, Smith has served as a Camp Counselor for the Decatur Park District.

A member of the Illinois College volleyball team, Smith was four-year letter winner and served as a team captain as a senior in 2006. In 2006, she was also a second-team All-Midwest Conference player as a right side hitter. As a high school player, Smith was a four-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball, softball and track.

Smith also serves as the Assistant Volleyball Coach.


Assistant Coach Susan Deppe
Susan Deppe joins the Big Blue softball coaching staff for the first season in 2007-08. Deppe pitched for the Big Blue during the 2004 season and for the last four years, Deppe has given pitching lessons to local athletes. For the last two summers, she has served as a coach for the Warrensburg-Latham youth league.

Deppe graduated from Millikin May 2007 with a degree in Sports Management. She currently serves as an Admission Counselor for Millikin, focusing on Central Illinois and Indiana.

 

 

Assistant Coach Lane Dunakey
Lane Dunakey brings more than 15 years of softball experience to the Big Blue in 2007-08. He served six seasons as the head coach at Sangamon Valley High School from 2002-06. He has also coached multiple youth teams ages five through 16. Dunakey, who works full time at Archer Daniels Midland, has been married for 21 years and has three teenage daughters.
