Golas joined the Big Blue family in August 2006 after serving as the head coach in both soccer and track at William Penn University from 2002-04. During his first season with the Big Blue track team, he coached a three-time national qualifier who claimed the best-ever Indoor NCAA finish in Millikin women’s history. He was named the Midwest Classic Conference (MCC) Track Coach of the Year in 2003 and also saw his men’s soccer team finish second in the MCC in 2003. Golas coached women’s soccer at Bemidji State University (2000-02) and also spent two years as the assistant women’s soccer coach at NCAA Division II Angelo State University. While at Angelo State (2004-05), Golas helped guide the program to its highest-ever regional ranking and the first-ever back-to-back 10-win seasons. Golas earned his Bachelor of Arts in history at Coe College where he was a four-year varsity letter winner in soccer and a three-year varsity letter winner in track. He earned a Master of Science in Sports Studies degree from Bemidji State University. He also serves as the first full-time women's soccer coach and his 2007 squad became the most successful team in program history.

 

Matthew Hayes

Matthew Hayes became Millikin's first full-time cross country coach in August 2006. He also serves as a distance coach for the track and field teams. In his first season with the Big Blue, Hayes had several athletes move into Millikin’s Top 10 times, and two of his men posted Top-5 times.

Hayes brings seven years of NCAA Division III coaching experience in cross country and track to Millikin. He was most recently the head men’s and women’s cross country/track and field coach at Methodist College in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Hayes has served as a head and assistant cross country coach at Lynchburg College and as an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. At Lynchburg College, Hayes led the women’s cross country team to the 2003 ODAC conference championship and was named the ODAC Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. His athletes at Lynchburg set six school records under his leadership. He also coached four NCAA Division III All-Americans at Lynchburg. At Wisconsin-Stevens Point, he coached four NCAA Division III National Champions and seven All-Americans.

As a college athlete at Stevens Point, Hayes participated in three NCAA Division III National Cross County Meets and six national track meets. He earned All-American Honors in the 4x400, 800 and 1,500-meter events. Still an avid runner, Hayes also competes in triathlons and helped organize the first Rodney T. Miller Lakeside Triathlon in July 2007.

 

Peter McNaughton

Peter McNaughton joins the Big Blue as the newest member of its track and field staff for the 2007-08 season. McNaughton has had tremendous success as an athlete and coach at the NCAA Division III level and will be primarily responsible for coaching and developing the sprinters and hurdlers.

McNaughton most recently served as the hurdles coach at Augustana College for three seasons. He led one of the top hurdling crews in the conference to six individual outdoor conference championships, two individual indoor championships and 23 all-conference honors. In 2006-07 he also coached the national champion in the men’s 400m intermediate hurdles.

As a college athlete McNaughton won All-American honors at Monmouth College by finishing fourth in the 110 m. hurdles in 1987. His time of 14.34 in the event still stands as Monmouth’s school record. In addition to the hurdles, McNaughton won multiple all-conference awards in the 100 m., 200 m. and long jump events. He was also captain of the soccer team at Monmouth. For his college athletic accomplishments, he was inducted into the Monmouth M-Club Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.

McNaughton holds USATF Level I certifications and is Level II certified in sprints, hurdles, distance and multi-events.
