 In the short history of the program (the team first began competing in 1997), Millikin has shown its abilities at both the national level and in the CCIW. Finishing sixth in the nation in the 2000-01 season, the Big Blue has been represented in the NCAA Championships four times in the last seven years and had a player earn All-Region honors in 2005-06. The team won back-to-back CCIW titles in 2000 and 2001 and head coach Marilyn Dechert is hoping to see her team make a run for the program’s third championship in 2007. Despite the loss of a four-year letter winner who carved a place for herself in the Millikin record books, the Big Blue returns several players with considerable experience, including Marissa Alexander, Katie Gifford, Meghan Christ, Heather Mitchell and Janelle Nickel. Dechert and her team will also look for additional depth from its incoming class. |
