Marilyn Dechert wrapped up her sixth season as the head coach of Millikin University’s women’s golf team in 2007-08. Despite her impressive golf resume, this is Dechert’s first coaching position.

A nine-time winner of the Decatur City Amateur, Dechert is only two wins shy of the record 11 wins. She earned her first championship in 1950 at the age of 17 and has won five City Senior Amateur Championships. Also on her list of achievements, Dechert finished second in the Illinois Senior State Championship in 1998.

A Decatur High School graduate and former Millikin student, Dechert competed for the Big Blue in the National Collegiate Championships at Ohio State during her freshman season. Despite losing to future LPGA player Kathy McKinnon in the first round, Dechert worked her way back through the tournament to earn the consolation championship. In 2002, Dechert took over a six-year old program that had won two consecutive College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships and finished sixth as a team at the 2000 NCAA Championships.
