Constitution of the BSA (rev. 2003)

ARTICLE I - NAME:
This organization
shall be known as the Millikin University Behavioral
Sciences Association, a professional organization for
students with an interest in the behavioral sciences.

|
ARTICLE II - PURPOSE:
It shall be the purpose
of the Millikin University Behavioral Sciences Association
to enhance interest in the social sciences through:

Promoting mentor relationships between students
and social sciences faculty.

Promoting pre-professional activities (e.g.,
speakers, programs, film series, field trips,
leadership programs, attendance at local or regional
professional meetings, service projects, research, etc.).

Promoting an awareness and understanding of the
behavioral sciences.
-
Assisting graduating students with obtaining information
concerning graduate schools and career choices.

ARTICLE III - MEMBERSHIP:
This association
shall be open to all interested Millikin University students
in the Behavioral Sciences. Members will consist of individuals
who have paid the dues of $5.00 per semester and regularly attend
meetings. Regular attendance is defined as no more than 3 unexcused
absences from scheduled meetings per semester. Those with more than
3 unexcused absences will be brought before the executive council
where they will determine if membership will continue to be
permitted. Only members have voting privileges and may hold office.

ARTICLE IV - OFFICERS, COMMITTEES, ELECTIONS & IMPEACHMENT
The officers
of the Millikin University Behavioral Sciences Association shall
be the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
These officers and the Faculty Advisor (an exofficio member)
shall constitute the executive council of the association.
A. The following is a description
of the officers' duties:

- PRESIDENT:
The responsibilities shall include presiding over all
scheduled meetings of the membership, announcement and
scheduling of meetings, appointment of chairpersons to committees,
providing leadership and direction regarding the
association's goals, and representing the association on campus.
The qualifications include: the completion of at least one
semester of college work with one of these semesters completed
at Millikin University, and be a member in good standing (dues
paid and good attendance) of the Behavioral Sciences Association
for at least one semester.
- VICE-PRESIDENT:
the responsibilities shall include presiding over the
association meetings in the absence of the president,
coordination of the standing committees of the association,
and supporting and assisting the president in accomplishing
the goals of the association. The qualifications for the office
include: the completion of at least one semester of college
work with at least one of these semesters completed at Millikin
University, and be a member in good standing of the Behavioral
Sciences Association for at least one semester.
- SECRETARY:
the responsibilities shall include attending all scheduled
meetings to officially record the proceedings of the meeting,
roll call of members, presenting-responding-filing association
correspondence as directed by the association's president.
The qualifications for the office shall include: the completion
of at least one semester of college work with at least one
semester in residence at Millikin University, and be a member
in good standing of the Behavioral Sciences Association for
at least one semester.
- TREASURER:
the responsibilities shall include attending all scheduled
meetings to officially report the current financial status
of the association, submit and/or receive bills for payment,
receive and deposit dues and/or fundraising monies, coordination
with the fundraising committee or programs. The qualifications
include: the completion of at least one semester of college
work with at least one semester in residence at Millikin
University, and be a member in good standing of the Behavioral
Sciences Association for at least one semester.
- COMMITTEE CHAIRS:
the responsibilities shall include presiding over all
committee meetings and scheduling and planning committee
meetings. The qualifications include: the completion of at
least one semester of college work with at least one of
these semesters completed at Millikin University, and be
a member in good standing of the Behavioral Sciences
Association for at least one semester.

B. The regular committees
of the association shall consist of the following:

- PROGRAMMING COMMITTEE:
whose function shall be to arrange speakers on
topics that promote pre-professional activities,
inform about social science issues, etc., that pertain
to academic growth, arrange activities such as films,
agency visits, announcements of on and off campus seminar
programs, etc., that pertain to academic growth, and to
organize social affairs and gatherings.
- FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE:
whose function shall be to develop, promote,
and conduct or assist other committees in
fundraising activities for the club's benefit.
- PUBLICITY COMMITTEE:
whose function shall be to develop and promote the
club's visibility on campus, and assist the officers
and committees in the announcement of club meetings and
activities. The committee is also responsible for the
upkeep of the Behavioral Sciences Association website.

C. Election of
Officers:

The officers shall be elected annually in the
spring semester. Nominations will be taken at the
first meeting in April and elections will be held
at the following meeting. Vacancies will be filled
with special elections held during regular meetings
or meetings called by an officer specifically for
this purpose. Each candidate for office shall receive
and complete a petition for that office to be read
at the election meeting prior to the voting for that office.

D. Impeachment &
Removal of Officers / Chairs:

Any member may initiate impeachment proceedings
against any officer or committee chair by submitting a
signed written complaint to the Faculty Advisor. The
Faculty Advisor, person(s) bringing forth the complaint,
and the executive council will then meet and examine the
legitimacy of the complaint. The meeting to ascertain
grounds for impeachment is private and confidential and
will be reported to the association for action only if the
vote of the executive council finds reasonable grounds for
impeachment. The decision to remove an officer based on a
legitimate complaint-will be presented to the membership and
require a 2/3 vote to remove the officer from office.

ARTICLE V - MEETINGS
General meetings shall
be held on one date per month and committee meetings shall be held
on one separate date per month. The dates shall be in agreement with
the schedules of the association members. Special meetings may be held in
case of: officer vacancy, symposiums/guest speakers, social activities,
or other reasonable activities.
