Day 29 (Monday, July 25th)
Today I didn’t have to go into the lab until 10:00am. I was working in the lab by myself and Eva was in the office if I needed her. I ran out of DI water at one point, so she said she would show me how to get more from the basement. She took me downstairs with the water container and we hooked up the machine to fill it. She said that it would take 17 minutes to fill the container three-fourths of the way full, so we left the container and went back to the lab. Within 10 minutes, a boy runs into our lab yelling something in Chinese. Eva jumps up and takes off out the door, so I figured I had better follow and see what was happening. For those of you who have never worked in a lab before or have never used DI water from a DI water container, how it works is that there is a lever-type switch that turns the water on and off. It moves from side to side and it allows you to control how much DI water you are transferring from the DI water container. Since the DI water container was empty when we carried it to the basement, we were unable to detect that the switch was actually open. So, we had left the container to fill up for 10 minutes without the switch even being closed, so all of that DI water ran all over the floor. So as I mopped up the chemistry building’s basement today, I kept remembering Organic II lab, and thinking to myself, “At least Dr. B isn’t here to see this. He’d probably be judging me right now.” (That’s what my friend Sean says when he’s doing something wrong or mischievous.)
After lab, I went home and watched old episodes of “The Challenge” all day again. For dinner, Heather and I went to the bakery and got Hot Dog Cheesy Bread. I went to Mr. Wish to get a Passion Fruit Green Tea again, and for some odd reason, I decided to get no sugar this time because I thought that it would save calories. Well, now I know never to do that again because it was terrible. I will sacrifice those calories any day; just make sure my Passion Fruit Green Tea is still rockin’ my taste buds, please. I grabbed fruit from the fruit stand and headed home. They were out of one of the native fruits that I always get, so I decided to try a new one. So I had mango, pineapple, and this plum-looking fruit which I also decided that I will never get again. It kind of tasted like rhubarb to me, but I am still not exactly sure what it was. Heather and I got home, ate our Hot Dog Cheesy Bread, and then I went for a run. The second I stepped outside it began to rain, so I decided to run up and down the stairs instead. Today was actually the first time I have ever counted the stairs. There are 160 stairs total in one direction. So I ran 640 stairs today, which makes me feel pretty good!
