Camp CEO at Millikin University
New this year to Millikin, Camp CEO allows high schoolers from across the country the chance to learn the business of business. High school students, having grown up witnessing the success of entrepreneurs like Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates, often have the desire to someday “be their own boss”. The week-long residential Camp CEO offers students a unique opportunity to experience the challenges, rewards and dedication entrepreneurs live day to day. This powerful program provides young men and women the chance to be their own boss, create a business feasibility plan, make new friends, meet successful business owners, and participate in a variety of recreational activities.
Following a week of leadership training, business site visits, guest speakers and networking receptions, students leave with a business feasibility plan. A highlight of the week is when the various teams present their feasibility plans and compete for cash prizes during the Friday afternoon “Entrepreneurial Challenge.”
The camp is coordinated by faculty and staff from Millikin’s Center for Entrepreneurship and the Millikin Regional Entrepreneurship Network (MREN). Dan Boynton, chairman of the Business Education Department at St. Teresa High School in Decatur, coordinates the curriculum portion of the camp. He developed the high school’s entrepreneurship curriculum and has worked closely with the entrepreneurship staff at Millikin for several years. Campers benefit from both Boynton’s academic credentials as well as his experience working with high schools students who demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit.
