The Long-Vanderburg Caterpillar (LV-CAT) Program recognizes high scholastic achievement among those students who have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, leadership, and community service.
The LV-CAT program honors the first two African-American graduates of Millikin University, Fred Long and Marian Vanderburg. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years so long as the student maintains a 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA and actively participates in the program.
The LV-CAT program is also named in appreciation of Caterpillar, Inc. In 2011, the Caterpillar Foundation invested $500,000 in LV-CAT program. This investment will allow for the program to grow from 60 to 120 students over a four-year period.
LV-CAT Scholars Program benefits:
• $2,000 annual scholarship totaling $8,000 over four years
• Leadership opportunities in local community service initiatives
• Service in the LV-CAT Living-Learning Community
Qualify for the LV-CAT Scholars Program
• Minimum cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
• Evidence of leadership, commitment to diversity, and community service participation in high school and/or local community organizations
• Membership in any historically underrepresented group or a demonstrated commitment
to the advancement of these groups
• Impressive Long-Vanderburg Caterpillar Scholars Application and Personal Statement
• Successful LV-CAT Scholars Program Interview on Millikin’s campus
