What is Turnitin ?

Turnitin is a powerful online plagiarism prevention service that checks student papers against four targets:

  • material on the Web
  • the "archived" Web
  • selected Library databases
  • other student papers.

The Turnitin system assigns an "originality" score to each student's work.

 

How do I get a Turnitin account an instructor?

All Millikin University faculty, adjunct faculty, administrators and staff are eligible for a Turnitin account. Contact Joe Hardenbrook, Educational Technologist, by e-mail at jhardenbrook@millikin.edu or call 424-3692 to get an account.

How do I use Turnitin as an instructor?

After you have received your Turnitin account, you will need to set up your class(es) in Turnitin and add the assignments that you want Turnitin to analyze.

* Important: For students to be able to upload their papers to Turnitin, the instructor must give them the Class ID and enrollment password.

If your instructor uses Turnitin, you will need to go to the Turnitin web site (http://www.turnitin.com/) and set up a free account. Your instructor will also give you a class ID and enrollment password in order to upload your paper(s).
