Millikin students may
choose from one of five baccalaureate degrees bases on their major,
the number of credits that they complete, and the type of courses
that they select. Consult with your academic advisor about which
degree is most appropriate for your career goal.
Bachelor of Science
(B.S.)
Students who select a
Natural Science major from the College of Arts and Sciences (Biology,
Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics) and students
who select certain Social Science majors (Education, Exercise Science,
Psychology Sociology) have the option of completing a B.S. degree.
In addition, students who select a major from the Tabor School of
Business (Accounting, Business Management, Finance, International
Business, Management Information Systems and Marketing) earn a B.S.
degree.
Students who select a
major in the College of Arts & Sciences and opt to complete
a B.S. must complete the science distribution requirement. The science
distribution requirement consists of ten additional credits beyond
the science and quantitative reasoning components required in the
University Studies curriculum . These credits must include
at least one laboratory science course and come from no more than
two departments outside the major department. Students may select
credits from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematic/Computer Science and
Physics. Credits earned in MA 100 and MA 106 count toward graduation
but do not count in the science distribution requirement of the
B.S. degree.
Bachelor of Arts
(B.A.)
Students who select a
major in the Humanities from the College of Arts & Sciences
(English, History, Modern Languages and Philosophy) earn a B.A.
degree. In addition, students who select a Natural Science major
from the College of Arts and Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Computer
Science, Mathematics and Physics) and students who select certain
Social Science majors (Communication, Human Services, Education,
Exercise Science, Political Science and Sociology) have the option
of completing a B.A. degree. Students who select a major in the
College of Fine Arts (Art, Music and Theatre) may have the option
of completing a B.A, depending on their concentration within these
areas.
Students who select a
major in the College of Arts & Sciences or the College of Fine
Arts and opt to complete a B.A. must complete the equivalent of
three semesters in a modern language (Spanish, French or Italian).
The three-semester course sequence includes courses numbered 103,
114 and 223. Placement within this three-semester sequence is determined
by high school work and the recommendation of Modern Language faculty.
Students who place at the 103 level must complete all three courses
(103, 114 and 223) in the sequence. Students who place at the 114
level must complete 114 and 223. Students who place at the 223 level
must complete 223 only. Students who place above the 223 level must
take a course numbered 300 or above or pass a proficiency exam.
Bachelor of Fine
Arts (B.F.A.)
Depending on their concentration
and professional aspirations, students who select Art or Theatre
majors from the College of Fine Arts have the option of completing
a B.F.A. degree.
The B.F.A in Art requires
that students complete 60-70 credits in Art (compared to 33-36 in
art credits for the B.A.). In addition, B.F.A. students in Art must
successfully complete a sophomore review, maintain a 2.50 GPA in
Art courses, and present an exhibition of their work during their
senior year.
The B.F.A. in Theatre
requires that students complete 79-81 credits in Theatre (compared
to 42 credits for the B.A.). B.F.A. students in Theatre complete
other requirements, depending on their area of concentration (acting,
directing or design/technical). The B.F.A. in Musical Theatre requires
that students complete 88 credits in Theatre.
Bachelor of Music
(B.M.)
Students who select a
Music major from the College of Fine Arts have the option of completing
a B.M. degree. Students pursuing a B.M. complete more course work
in Music than students pursuing a B.A.
Bachelor of Science
in Nursing (B.S.N.)
Students who select Nursing
complete a B.S.N. degree.
