Committee on Global Issues

The Committee on Global Issues is composed of one faculty representative chosen from each division, the Director of International Programs, the International Student Advisor and two student representatives.

The Committee is charged with promoting international and global awareness at Millikin University.  It also recommends policies and procedures for programs of study abroad, international education on campus and cross-cultural course work.

The Committee is to promote faculty involvement in international and study abroad education.

The Committee also designs and promotes to the University community programs that advance international and global cultural awareness utilizing on and off campus resources.  For these purposes the Committee administers a small grants program for faculty and students, funding permitting.

The Committee acts as an advisory body to the Director of International Programs for the range of tasks defined by the Director.  This may include ranking of applicants for semesters abroad if the number of placements is limited.

The Committee acts as an advisory body to the Dean of Arts and Sciences with respect to approval of exploratory Global Studies courses.  The Committee reviews whether newly created Global Studies courses fit the approved guidelines.

The Committee serves as the primary assessment body for the Global Studies component of the Millikin Program of Student Learning.  In this capacity, it receives and evaluates annual assessment reports on Global Studies courses and issues recommendations based on the reports to the Deans and to the Vice-President of Academic Affairs.
