leather shoes |
up at dawn |
The first poem I relate to totally. I am wearing a pair of the those...finally .....broken in shoes right now. I get the impression that the lines after finally symbolize a long drawn out sigh. I can hear the person saying it. Those shoes will now be her best friend...I have had mine for 6 years. The second poem...I see an animated pair of sneakers snickering t the person who has to get up at dawn and run. Now if I were a runner I would probably get the impression that those are my tried and true friends there to great me every morning. The author probably likes to run, as to where I would rather kiss a rat. I choose the first poem as the winner just because I am able to relate better. The second poem is also good because I get a really funny visual of animated sneakers. Wendy |

rubber worn smooth |
leather shoes |
These two haiku both bring you in with the visual element to set the tone for the rest of the haiku. The second line Red-Flyer coasting and finally… deals with a persons feeling. The feeling of coasting down the driveway again and finally … accomplishing something is a feeling we can all relate too. Then the third line on both haiku takes you back to the visual you can see the kids going down the driveway one more time and the visualizing of what a favorite worn pair of shoes looks like. Both these haiku I think are very well written and leave the reader thinking and visualizing they’re own ending to the haiku. Jacqueline |

High school pride |
Off to school |
I like both of these because they remind me of the “good old days”. High school was a great time and fall was the beginning of it all. Anticipating beginning the new year after summer break. I loved shopping for new school close and the weather turning colder. Upcoming football games and activities such as Homecoming and pep rallies were highlights. School spirit was everywhere and themed t-shirts went perfectly with the best broken in jeans. Patricia |

ready for school |
Both of these take you back to the first day of school. I can remember always digging in my closet to find my best outfit, because you always want to look your best on the first day. In these two Haiku’s I see families with not to much money, and maybe are unable to buy there children a new outfit for the first day of school. In one the clothing is old and all worn out and in the other the clothing is old and to small. Andrea |

I enjoyed these two haiku poems because they remind me of my first car. It was a Ford Thunderbird. It was red and white with rust all over it. If any thing could be wrong with car it was. I would drive it down the street and all of a sudden it would just cut off. I used to be so embarrassed. One day I was driving down the street and the muffler fell off. I just kept pouring money into it because I did not want to get rid of it. Not only was it my first care my sister bought it for me. I felt obligated to keep the car for her and I did not want to get back on the bus. Needless to say after about a year it went to Thunderbird heaven. It quit for the last time at my job and I had it towed away. I do not know where it went from there. Neisha |

Leather shoes |
Up at dawn |
This pair of haiku provides me with a vivid picture of how a pair of shoes can mean so much to a person. The beginning haiku leaves the reader relieved that the ill-fitting shoes recently purchased are now finally comfortable. Everyone has had a new pair of shoes at some point in their lives and each one of those pairs are somewhat stiff and cumbersome in the very beginning. In the second haiku, those running shoes have now become a significant part of that runner’s life. The tremendous amount of time spent wearing the shoes running has provided a special bond between the runner and their shoes. Taking on a personality of their own, these shoes are always there to provide both comfort and support to a task that normally would be grueling. Greg |

Worn these twice |
Leather shoes |
I choose this pair because they both are true for me! When I buy new jeans I always wear them at least twice. Maybe a third time depending when, where, and how long I have worn them the other to times I had them on. After you wash them the cotton shrinks up and you have to stretch them out again by wearing them a couple of time. Its like a never ending story. |
