PACE Global Haiku Traditions--July 2006

that song
it never fails
suddenly I am back

wish things were better
can only hope
still have my health

started out a vase
in pottery class
end result: ashtray

glancing over my shoulder
caught a glimpse
of the old me

bottom quarter champion

happily married
divorced
God still in driver seat

faded patterns
the quilt from grandmother
covering us both

rusty rickety
older than me
my very own car at last

canary yellow
     stick shift
     smashed beetle

bottom half champion

rubber worn smooth
Red-Flyer coasting
down the driveway again

weary traveler
     dusk
          weeping willow

leather shoes
finally . . .
broken in

up at dawn
running shoes
greet me

top quarter champion

bottom half champion

bottom quarter champion

highschool pride
best pajamas
at night

worn these twice
should probably wash them
but now I can breathe

glasses on the nightstand
no longer seeing
ghost from the past

silver photograph
a worn leather frame
under his pillow
