white water over the cliff we stop holding our breath Eric Sharp

his number up and down the court not him

ominous clouds cover only our home before the diagnosis is in

snow covered yard the smell of hot chocolate

frozen car door try someone else's frozen too

one last glance the flames engulf precious memories

icicles hang from stars

Lo Mein and hot tea smiles, telling a story no more work today

the long walk up running start my sled and I fly

brisk wind on my face his comment makes me angrier

I pat my mittens before gathering another ball of snow

collar on the bedpost still jingles at bedtime

cold wind blows around me thought of him warms me

numb fingers trying to curl up away from cold

falling star underneath the oak lovers embrace

bathroom counter she wipes away his tears

old box of pictures 2 years gone yet he still consumes me

hair dripping warm fire frostbit toes

empty canoe shimmers upside down reflecting heat

ice on my sprain inside watching the icicles melt

the smell of home wrapped in the quilt her mother made

first kiss the taste of almond coffee

collection of crushed rose petals real flower girl makes me give them back

morning paper and cereal my dog's head on my leg

glow of streetlights shattered as I step in the puddle

cold metal barrel can't imagine what she was thinking

looking down at my hands the cold and bitter wind erases that very moment

looking across the plain snow gradually appears across the horizon

frozen oak leaves rustle I clench my jaw

cleaning out the garage the old rusty bike with two flat tires

the snow covered sidewalk freezing rain falling long walk home

hills slick with snow children bundled up packed on the toboggan

autumn sunset caught in the massive sail

Late night Crumbs on my floor Open bottle of advil

my imagined play echoes through the empty theatre

peaceful and quiet alone still sun shine

building igloos the little boys deep in snow

quiet day a sonic boom a crowded funeral home

buffalo woman threads          fading on the wall

tip-toeing across the solid creek bed a single air bubble

sitting barefoot in a clover patch the breeze begins Jennifer Clements (5)
