in winter darkness
a started rabbit bolts
evening hikers

alone in the wood
a tree ladder
climb those weathered boards

atop the kneeling bench—
eye to eye with my father
for the first time

  

 

the slap of old leather—
across the baseball diamond
my brother grins

the movie flickers
eyes half closed
her hair on my cheek
