Description

We can learn much about the object of parody and
satire through that parody/satire. In this course
students will look at American society through the
lens of South Park, the Comedy Central animated
situation comedy. Trey Parker and Matt Stone criticize
American society through the experiences of their
child protagonists—Cartman, Kyle, Stan, and Kenny.
This course will explore the social commentary
offered by South Park and how humor drives that
social commentary. Contemporary American issues
may include, race relations, the media, the war in
Iraq, film and entertainment, sexual orientation, law
enforcement, parenting, and politics.
