This course is designed to help student nurses to begin to “think like a nurse”. Methods used to achieve this include working one-on-one with a preceptor on varied nursing units and shifts at local area hospitals/agencies. The class will discuss topics including but not limited to ethics, “ways of knowing”, communication, end of life issues, decision-making processes along with test taking skills. The students will also be able to explore specialty units that they may have been exposed to during their other clinical courses. Students will be able to develop mentor relationships with experienced nurses, gain experience in critical thinking, assess, organize, and develop a professional network. This course includes both classroom and clinical experience.
