About the Major
The Interdepartmental major is an individually designed program of study
that integrates knowledge and pedagogy from disparate disciplines.
The Interdepartmental Major supports the mission of Millikin University
in preparing students for professional success, democratic citizenship
in a diverse global community, and a personal life of meaning and
value.
The Interdepartmental major is an academic option for students with
a wide range of academic need and preparedness interfaced with a variety
of professional and career aspirations. The major provides a curricular
option for students:
- with broad interests or career goals that do not categorically
fall into a single major.
- who intend to do post baccalaureate work in an area of study
that Millikin does not have a major.
- who, for an array of reasons have redirected their academic
focus late in their academic program.
The three-fold purpose of the Interdepartmental
Major includes:
1.Enabling the student to plan
a unified college program in keeping with academic interests
and career orientation;
2. Giving the student opportunity
for study and training in several fields;
3. Placing strong emphasis on
student initiative in the development and completion of the
student's academic program.
