TH255/HI210  History of Styles  (3 credits)

This historical course is taught on campus as a requirement for many theatre majors. In London, will be taught using the resources of Europe (art, architecture, etc) as examples.

From Millikin University 2006 Course Bulletin: History of Style: Antiquity Through Modern.  An exploration of periodicity through examination of stylistic elements from Egyptian through current day. Styles of art, architecture, dance, theatre, music, etc. will be examined in an effort to give students a strong sense of the commonalties as well as the differences in the various art of the periods. Trends in philosophy, religion, commerce, etc. will be studied for their effect upon artistic form.

Notes the instructor, Jana Henry,  "The History of Styles course isn't at all about theatre. It's about history. What makes a "period" a "period". From Egypt to Art Deco, why we group ideas and styles together into a movement. Theatre in this course doesn't have any more importance than fine art, architecture, music, fashion, etc. "
