About London
London 2004 semester  Reactions from students in London Fall 2004

While the specific week-by-week class schedule is still being developed, the following is already in place.

We will make the housing available from Sept. 1 to Dec. 7 inclusive. If you want to stay later, this can probably be arranged; although there may be an additional cost involved. Housing most likely will be apartment-style (your indicated preference), though the hostel-type remains an option.

Before classes start, you will get a tour of London sights and related history (private bus and guide) and also a walking tour of whatever neighborhood you will be living in.

Your classes will start Sept. 6 which is a Tuesday. On the 7th and 8th, you will have a field trip to Stratford-Upon-Avon to see some Shakespeare-related sights and two plays (As You Like It & 12th night). Housing has been reserved for you, and travel will be by rented bus.

You also have tickets for a play at the London Globe on Sept. 27th (Tempest). Additional plays cannot be scheduled until the London theatre season is announced this summer.

Other events that will be scheduled throughout the semester include tours of the Tower of London (including the "Ceremony of the Keys"), the Globe Theatre (independent of attending the play there), and of the BBC, as well as some Master Acting Classes (only for those students enrolled in the acting course). Further possibilities include museums (such as the British Museum or the Tate) and Parliament.

We are planning to have classes and events concentrated on Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday, with the understanding that there may be occasional plays and other events that have to occur outside that time frame. We are also trying to give everyone as much advance notice as possible about those additional commitments, though again with the understanding that occasionally, something last-minute may come up that the students cannot miss.

One definite time frame that will be free will be fall break, when we will schedule a whole week of independent time for you. Fall break week will be October 17 (Monday)-23 (Sunday), with the weekend before that (Oct. 14-16) also free.
