"With your International Student Identity Card (ISIC), you are joining a worldwide community of over 4.5 million students who share a passion for travel, adventure and discovery that have chosen to carry an ISIC this year. Since its inception in 1968, more than 40 million students have enhanced their educational experience with the International Student Identity Card.  Your ISIC card is also the only internationally recognized form of student identification. It is issued accepted in more than 100 countries around the globe and gives you access to more than 32,000 discount and benefits to help your student budget take you further."  https://www.myisic.com/MyISIC/ "ISIC Community." Jan. 2007.

Although we always hope that every trip we take will proceed smoothly, we also know that sometimes one does not. When you are traveling in familiar territory, you will know how and from whom to get assistance when you need it. In another country, you will not have that knowledge.

The International Student Identity Card will help you if you get sick or if you should end up in legal difficulties, and, even if you do not have those kinds of problems,  provides discounts on other travel-related services. It also serves as a form of international identification in addition to your passport. As some Millikin examples, one student recently needed legal advice in Spain, a second had a lost passport fee covered in Paris, and a third needed to return unexpectedly from South America for medical reasons.

All Millikin students who travel outside of the United States on any and all Millikin-related programs of whatever length must obtain this card. The Millikin application is available from the office of the Director of International Programs as well as in pdf online . The cost is minimal (2006: $22), especially for the services the card provides. Just bring a passport-sized picture and $22 to the office of the Director of International Programs, and we will make the card for you on the spot. (We can take the picture for an additional $1.)
