After your semester, you will be asked for a reflection paper if you are earning  Off-Campus credit for the semester.
These are the guidelines if you are earning IN350 credit for one of your semester abroad courses.

Students who wish to participate in international study must be at least 18 years of age, have completed their most recent 24 credit hours of study on campus at Millikin University, and pay a modest international study fee at the time the application is accepted ($200 for 2007/08). Only students who are in good financial standing with the Business Office will be accepted for international study.

To apply for a Study Abroad semester

Application deadlines: October 1 for the coming spring semester,
March 1 for the following fall semester.

You should make an appointment with the Director of International Programs well in advance of the deadline. (Contact information at bottom of this page.)

All applications for a study abroad semester MUST be made through the International Programs Office. This includes for programs where application forms may be available on other web sites, such as for IES.

You will also need to complete the following paperwork for the International Programs Office as a condition of studying abroad. All but one of the forms are newly (September 2006) available online in pdf format.

You will need to bring all completed forms to the International Programs Office (Staley Library 105) no later than the deadline above for the applicable semester.

  1.   A two-page personal data form which includes emergency contact information. This information is for the office files of the Director of International Programs only.

  2.   A faculty recommendation. The provided form can be used, or the same information can be covered in a letter format. The person who writes this recommendation should be someone who is familiar with your academic work and can attest that you will use the semester abroad to good academic purpose.

  3. A one page Pre-Registration that lets the Registrar and other campus offices know that you will be away from campus that semester but are still a Millikin student and will be getting academic credit for your study abroad.

  4.   A four-page Statement of Responsibility, Release and Authorization to Participate in an International Studies Program. Through this form, you agree to mature behavior and accept certain personal responsibilities. You need to read the form carefully before you sign it.

  5.  A two-page Waiver, Release and Indemnification Agreement through which you legally acknowledge your personal responsibility (previous form). Your signature on this form needs to be notarized, which can be accomplished in International Programs Office or with any other notary. Do not sign this form until you are personally in front of a Notary Public. You will also need to show a valid picture ID (your Millikin ID is OK for this purpose).

  6.   An International Student Identification Card (ISIC) application that, along with a passport-sized picture and a check for $22 made out to Millikin University, gives you a universal student ID along with access to a variety of student discounts and some limited insurance benefits. For an additional $1, we can take the picture in the library at the time of application. This card is created for you in the International Programs Office.  (You do not need this one if you are applying for an IES program.)

    about this card.

  7. Program-specific forms if Millikin University is not the program sponsor.

Be sure that you get a valid passport as soon as possible if you do not already have one! It needs to be valid to a date after you return to this country.  Some programs also require a visa (France and Italy, for example) for a semester in their country, though most still do not.
