IES (the Institute for the International Education of Students), a consortium of more than 150 highly selective U.S. colleges and universities, is a global non-profit educational organization with programs throughout Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America. Millikin University's affiliation with IES makes it possible for qualified Millikin students, ordinarily in their junior year, to study abroad for a semester through many IES centers. Most of these centers are in some way linked to local universities. The IES centers offer courses in various disciplines. These courses are structured in the American tradition, but are taught by native professors in their own language. You also have the option of taking the regular courses of the local university (though restrictions may apply), or a combination of IES and university courses. In addition, many centers offer internship options. To participate in IES programs, you must meet IES admission requirements including a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and you must have proficiency (usually defined as having successfully completed a Modern Languages 301 or equivalent level course) in the language of the country in which the IES center is located. In those cases where English is the language of instruction, there is no foreign language proficiency requirement. All federal and state financial aid and 75% of Millikin aid follows Millikin students for one semester on an IES program, unless that aid has already been used for another off-campus semester. |
