The course will explore the history, the culture, the art, the architecture
and the food of Sicily.  Furthermore it will analyze the Greek, Roman, Arabic,
and Norman civilizations and their impact on the territory and lifestyle. 
A particular emphasis will be given on the development and the economic growth
of the region through the centuries in comparison to the main land and how its
geographical location has characterized the uniqueness of the island, different than
the rest of Italy.  It will be journey in which Sicily will be discovered through all the senses.   

  • Evaluate the ancient civilizations’ impact on the island
  • Discuss the origins of the Italian civilization 
  • Assess the economic influence on the region
  • Explain the main economic industries and production in the region
  • Assess various aspects of society
