Recent Changes & Known Issues

•   Beginning January 28, 2013 -

The University Strategic Plan that was approved by the Board of Trustees in November 2012 contained upgrades to the campus technology infrastructure.  The elements contained in the plan included new cabling for the network, additional and updated wireless, and an update to the core of the network.  The Information Technology Department has been working on the plan for several months and the first updates will begin with cables being replaced in Shilling Hall.  The work will begin on Monday, January 28th and will start on the 4th floor, East End.  You may see workers from Bodine Electric installing cabling in the halls or they may be visiting your office area.  Very brief isolated outages or none at all will be taking place during the installation.  IT staff will be communicating with and assisting departments as the work proceeds.  If you have any questions, please call the Help Desk, 6488, for an update.

•   Summer 2012 -

During the Summer of 2012, Millikin University will be upgrading to the newest version of GroupWise.  The policies regarding email will also change.  For more information on these changes, click here.

•   Internet Explorer v9 - Causes some issues when displaying some webpages.  We suggest using Mozilla Firefox as an alternative until the problem is solved.

-----

•   Microsoft Office files open as "Read Only" when opened from a Network folder (G:, H:, etc) - This is a know bug with Microsoft.

•   Beginning Monday, April 9, 2012 -

We will be implementing a new spam filtering software on Monday, April 9th.  This system should help to improve the overall performance of filtering out spam messages.  90% of the incoming emails to the campus are classified as spam.  In order to ensure that your mailboxes are not bombarded with these useless emails, we needed to find a more reliable solution to stop them before they are delivered to you.

Of course, no spam filter solution is perfect, and you need to be able to check your spam for legitimate emails that might get caught in the filter.

There is a one time setup that you must complete and then you will be able to use the link in myMILLIKIN without logging in each time.  Click here to view directions for that setup.

Because Internet traffic is distributed using many routers all over the world and it can take about a week for the new information about our filter to propagate the web.  There will be links to the old and the new spam filter system on myMILLIKIN to check for emails that you think could have been caught by a spam filter.
