Ad-Aware Personal is the free version of the powerful Ad-Aware program which searches and cleans spyware, adware, and other problematic programs from your personal computer. It is fairly simple to download, install, and run. Just follow these simple steps to run this program. Be sure to print out these instructions before you begin, so that you will have them during the install.

1. Click on this link, then save the program to your desktop: ftp://ftp.download.com/pub/win95/utilities/aawsepersonal.exe

2. Double-click on the file named aawsepersonal.exe to start the installation. Click next, next, next, next, then finish. Ad-Aware is now installed on your computer.

3. Run Ad-Aware. Double-click on the Ad-aware icon on your desktop.

4. Click on the Globe icon in the upper right-hand corner of the window. This will launch the WebUpdate window.

5. Click the Connect button on the WebUpdate window, then finish when it is done.

6. Click on the Start button in the lower right-hand corner of the program's window (pictured below.)

7. Click the Next window in the lower right-hand corner of the window. The program will now scan your computer (the amount of time this takes will depend on how many files you have on your computer as well as the speed of the computer.)

8. After the process has finished, you will be given a summary of what was found. Normally, several hundred things will be found. When you are done looking at this, just click the Next button on the lower right-hand part of the window.

9. Now you will be presented with a screen that tells you exactly what was found (not just a summary like was in #6.) Click Next when you're ready to proceed.

10. Now, a window will pop up saying "### objects will be removed. Continue?" Click on the OK button. Your computer is now clean of spyware and adware.
