How to defragment your hard drive
If your computer has been running really slowly, and it
seems like programs take forever to load, you might need to defragment
your hard drive. In order to keep your computer running at top performance,
you should do this once a week. The steps are below:
In Windows 95, 98, and ME:
1. Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk
Defragmenter
2. Click on the Settings button
3. Uncheck Rearrahge program files so my programs start faster and Check
the drive for errors (this will make the process go much faster.) then
click OK.
4. Click on OK, and the scan will begin.
The process will take several hours if it hasn't been done
in a while; you can't work while it is going because it will make the
process restart constantly. The best idea is to start the process in the
evening before you leave and let it work overnight.
Windows 2000/XP instructions:
1. Go to start, Programs (in XP, this may be All Programs,)
Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter.
2. Click on Defragment, and let the process run.
3. You can continue to work while this process runs. It will still take
a while to complete, but won't restart if you keep working.

any questions on this process.
