The Millikin University Center for Entrepreneurship is pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 Business Creation Competition.
First Place - $750 award
ItsMatter – Mark Kepeneghian and Camille Lefevre
ItsMatter is a website where individuals can ask any specific questions and receive replies from experts. Users can then choose which expert is the most appropriate for their needs.
Second Place - $500 award
Drink4Fun – Charles Morin and Joseph Saddier
The business plan of Drink4Fun consists of creating a website that provides American services and products for French student events for ages 18 to 25.
Third Place - $350 award
double eLLe COMEDY – Lauren Lewis
double eLLe COMEDY is a business that branches off the brand of The Comedy Bar in Chicago and creating a talent management company. The focus is on developing the independent artist and being the “one stop shop.”
Third Place - $350 award
Stencil-Vania Shirt Co. – Peter Bushnell, Amanda Sagan and Favian Lobo
Stencil-Vania Shirt Co. designs and prints T-shirts. Using a silk-screening press, the company creates high quality shirts that were designed by Stencil-Vania or a client.
The Business Creation Competition is an annual business plan competition open to Millikin undergraduate students from any area of study. Students are invited to submit their full business plan to the competition, where they will give a presentation to a panel of judges.
The judging panel included Mary Little ’07, Youth Entrepreneurship Program Coordinator, Center for Entrepreneurship and Second Wind Flute Ensemble founder, Millikin University; Jennifer Chickey ’94, Principle & Owner, BlueSummit Consulting; Andrew Schenk ’09, Mac & iOS Consultant.
Some winners may be invited to apply for additional funds as well as a space in Millikin’s student business incubator, The Hub. A variety of businesses have been presented in past competitions, including recording companies, theatre companies, a micro-investment firm, a graphic design company, restaurants, a software development company, and more.
The Millikin University Center for Entrepreneurship is a laboratory for student and professional development. The Center offers a wide range of education and training opportunities for students in many campus disciplines, and provides business consulting services to start-up, existing and emerging high-growth businesses.
