Millikin University will host an assortment of events this September to observe International Month.
Each September, Millikin’s Center for International Education hosts International Month, a celebration of international students, travel and issues. The campus community has the opportunity to discover world cultures, hear from people of other nations, and learn about Millikin’s options for studying abroad.
“International Month has been a tradition at Millikin University and every year we highlight a country by presenting activities and guest speakers,” remarked Carmen Aravena, director of the Center of International Education. “It’s important for the Millikin community to experience the cultural activities of International Month and it’s a great opportunity for our international students to be a part of these events.”
The Center is highlighting Cuba during its month of festivities. Photography and information about the country will be displayed throughout the month in the Lower Richards Treat University Center. Scheduled events include an international Cuban cuisine provided every Wednesday, presentations by the 2012 International Fellowship Scholars, and a world photo competition.
International Month will also feature guest speakers including, Alicia Pedroso, musicologist & director of the School of Music at Universidad del Pacifico on Thursday, Sept. 20, and Master Percussionist Dr. Jose Eladio Amat on Thursday, Sept. 27. Both presentations will be held in the Pilling Chapel on Millikin’s campus. Dr. Jose Eladio Amat will perform in concert on Friday, Sept. 28 at Westminster Church at 7:30 p.m.
