Millikin University invites students, alumni and friends to participate in the 2012 Homecoming festivities taking place from Sept. 30 – Oct. 7, 2012.
Millikin students will celebrate Homecoming with a week full of activities that will conclude on the weekend of Oct. 5-7 when hundreds of alumni and friends return to campus.
Homecoming week officially begins on Sunday, Sept. 30 with the Color Run and the annual Banner Competition. The Color Run will begin at 6 p.m. on the Kirkland Fine Arts Center parking lot. The registration fee for runners or walkers is a donation of two non-perishable food items which will be donated to the school-wide food drive or a $2 donation. The annual Banner Competition features student organizations creating banners in celebration of Homecoming Week. The banners will be judged by faculty and staff, and prizes will be awarded to the winners. The Banner Competition will be from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. in Lower Richards Treat University Center.
On Monday, Oct. 1, area alumni and friends are invited to attend one of the most anticipated events, the Kick-Off. The Kick-Off will be held on the Miller Quad from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. The event will include a mechanical bull and inflatables. Food will be provided at the Kick-Off.
Students will also participate in traditional Homecoming events throughout the week, including a talent show at the Kirkland Fine Arts Center on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. and Chalk the Walk on Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. The Homecoming Dance and Coronation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. in Lower Richards Treat University Center. The annual Homecoming Pep Rally and fireworks will take place on Friday, Oct. 5 starting at 8 p.m. at Frank M. Lindsay Field. The pep rally will feature performances by the Millikin University Sapphires Dance Team and Physical Graffiti.
On Saturday, Oct. 6 the Big Blue Football team will take on North Central College at 1 p.m. at Frank M. Lindsay Field. Prior to the game, Big Blue fans can enjoy Spirit Fest, presented by the University Center Board (UCB) and Millikin’s PACE Program. Spirit Fest begins at 10:30 a.m. on the Miller Quad. There will be live music, free food, and interactive games for all to enjoy.
Homecoming Week 2012 will conclude with the hysterical Broadway’s Next H!T Musical on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Kirkland Fine Arts Center starting at 8 p.m. Broadway’s Next H!T Musical is the only unscripted theatrical awards show. Master improvisers gather made up, hit song suggestions from the audience and create a spontaneous evening of music, humor, and laughter.
