The James Millikin Homestead web site was developed as a service learning project in English 301, Web Publishing during the Spring 2000 semester at Millikin University.

Taught by Dr. Randy Brooks, director of the writing major and coordinator of the Media Arts Center, this course emphasizes both theory and practice. Students learn to use the technology of publishing on the web, and they learn the basics of quality web design. The ultimate test of these abilities and theories is to develop an actual web site for a client. We are so thankful to the board of the James Millikin Homestead for providing us with the opportunity to develop their web site.

Six teams developed a complete web site for the homestead and presented their design to the board members. After appropriate review and consideration, the best elements of several teams were combined for the board (by Dr. Brooks) into the final design.

Team acknowledgements:

Special thanks to Natalie Wise and Jennifer Winter who designed the overall gaphics and navigation strategy for the web site. All of the banner graphics at the top of the pages and the overall structure of this web site were created by this team.

The homestead history was written and designed by the team of Ryan Seaburg, Amy Frank, and Joe Gaczewski. They also created the ornate divider rule used throughout the site.

The team including Reggie Beard, Amber Ward and Misty Williams had the best photographs so several of the photographs in this web site came from their design.

The virtual photographic tour and special events pages were based on the web site created by Kathleen Bernard, Kelly Noonan and Adrienne Puyear.

Dr. Brooks continues to serve as the webmaster for this site, so if you have any questions, corrections or suggestions, please email him at: rbrooks@mail.millikin.edu
