Grand Staircase

The Grand Staircase is a main feature of the home.

The stair landing provides an excellent view of the cherubs on the ceiling.

The hand painted canvas of cherubs on the stairwell ceiling originated in 1883.

The beautifully carved rail is butternut and walnut, and was done by a local craftsman.

As one ascends the stairs, the stained glass of the oriel window is quite breathtaking. In 1883, the glass in the window was clear, but was replaced in the early 1900's.

Age damage can be seen, but the glass is protected on the outside. The window is being restored pane by pane with work already having been started.

The Queen Anne bench below the window is said to have been a favorite of Mrs. Millikin.
