Blue Connection to feature the work of Millikin graphic design students
Blue Connection will feature the work of Millikin University's top graphic design students during a mid-month After 5 Live event. The opening reception scheduled for Friday, Feb. 15 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. will showcase mixed media and digital art, student portfolios, and an artist meet & greet. Student artists will include Toni Graves, a senior from Plainfield, Ill., Charlie Huth, a senior from Naperville, Ill., Sheri Martin, a senior from Peotone, Ill., Brad May, a senior from Rockford, Ill., Amanda Sagan, a senior from Geneva, Ill., Christy Swanberg, a senior from Manhattan, Ill., and Anibal Valentin, a senior from Decatur, Ill.

Digital art has grown in popularity since the 1970's and encompasses a wide variety of artistic work. Artists use digital technology and desktop publishing software to manipulate images, drawings, text, and more to design their composition. Work on display for the group show will range from figurative to abstract. In addition to showcasing their artwork, artists will present their portfolios for guests to browse and discuss with the students.

Opened in 2003, Blue Connection is Millikin's retail art gallery located in the Madden Arts Center in Downtown Decatur. Focused on arts and specialty businesses, the retail location is used by students in Millikin University's Arts & Entrepreneurship Program to grow their businesses. Millikin's Arts & Entrepreneurship Program is a six-credit course sequence providing performance-based learning opportunities for students to practice self-employment. The program utilizes curricular-based activities and student-run ventures to give students a live laboratory experience in developing, launching, and growing a business.

Blue Connection's Graphic Design Group Show Opening Reception, featuring Millikin University graphic design students, will be held Friday, Feb. 15 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Blue Connection’s downtown location, 117 N.
