Luis Peralta
was born and studied in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
He graduated from the Modern Languages program at
the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo ( UASD),
the oldest university on the continent. He also finished a Masters
in Education for Education and Technology at American
InterContinental University (AIUonline
).
Peralta has worked with the Peace Corps, ESL
schools, Universidad Católica de Santo Domingo ( UCSD)
and Instituto Cultural Dominico-Americano (ICDA)
where he coordinated and created the Spanish program for foreigners
and conducted training, supervision, and recruiting of language
teachers. (See resúmé).
He teaches the following courses at Millikin
University: SP103 (Beginning Spanish), SP-114 (Continuing Spanish),
SP-223 (Intermediate Spanish), Conversación and Composición
(SP-302), Culture and Civilization of the Spanish Caribbean
(IN-350), Cultura y Civilización del Caribe Hispánico (SP-350),
and immersion and culture- based courses.
Now he enjoys designing technology-based courses
and modules. He serves as an interpreter and also as a training
assistant in safety and security for Monsanto in Illiopolis,
Illinois. He is a member of ACTFL
and he has participated in numerous international conferences
for ESL and Language teachers in the Dominican Republic and the US.
At the present, Peralta is the advisor for the Spanish Honor Society
Sigma Delta Pi Chapter
Phi Tau. This
society prepares and sponsors cultural activities and services for
Millikin and the community in Decatur, Illinois.
He
likes to write short stories, activities and games for language
teaching, loves music, and dancing. His hobbies include: dancing
lessons, DJ, cultural presentations and event coordination. He has
published three articles in different magazines in campus and in
Decatur.
