Gary R. Shaw

Dr. Shaw is Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Millikin University where he teaches trombone and conducts the Symphonic Wind Ensemble.  Dr. Shaw is also conductor of the Decatur Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Greater Decatur Youth Band, a summer program for students in central Illinois. Dr. Shaw is a frequent guest conductor at Illinois District festivals and Honor Band performances throughout the Midwest.

Dr. Shaw currently performs on trombone with the Millikin Faculty Brass Quintet, the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra and is a soloist with the Decatur Municipal Band.  He has taught at the University of Illinois Summer Trombone Camp and the Illinois Honors Trombone Choir. He earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Master of Music degree from Boston University and the Bachelor of Music Education degree from the New England Conservatory of Music.

Sharon Huff

In addition to conducting the Millikin Concert Band, Dr. Sharon Huff also teaches Brass Methods, Applied Tuba and Euphonium, coaches various brass ensembles, and supervises student teachers. 

Dr. Huff earned the Doctorate of Musical Arts and Master of Musical Arts from the University of Illinois, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Illinois State University, where she graduated summa cum laude.  Before joining the faculty at Millikin, Dr. Huff taught at Illinois State University and St. Norbert College near Green Bay, Wisconsin. In addition to the courses for which she is currently responsible, she has also taught a variety of humanities, music literature, and music education courses. 

As a clinician, conductor, adjudicator, and soloist, Dr. Huff has performed and conducted across the      Midwestern and Eastern U.S., as well as in Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Germany, and Austria.  Dr. Huff served as the Conferences Coordinator for the International Tuba/Euphonium Association from 1994-2002; and, in that capacity, she helped plan International Tuba/Euphonium Conferences in Evanston, IL; Riva del Garda, Italy; Minneapolis, MN; Regina, Canada; Lahti, Finland; and Greensboro, NC.  Dr. Huff is a Willson/DEG euphonium artist, and she has performed on tours through Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Austria; as well as at the 2001 ITEC in Lahti, Finland, the 2002 Mid-Europe Festival in Schladming, Austria, and the 2003 and 2006 IWBC in Normal, IL.  Recently completing two three-year terms as President of the International Women’s Brass Conference, Dr. Huff was Co-Host of the 2003 and 2006 conferences, which were held at Illinois State University.  Currently the Music Director and Conductor of the Brass Band of Central Illinois, Dr. Huff has also guest conducted the Monarch Brass Ensemble and brass concerts featuring musicians of the St. Louis Symphony and the Houston Symphony.
