Opening night is a spectacularly colorful evening
of virtuosic music,
with rising piano superstar Inon Barnatan.

Opera
A charming operatic version of Little Red Riding Hood, staged
by the
Millikin University Opera Theatre, with MDSO right on the stage.
•October 27th--The Mahler Fifth (Subscription No.
2)
Our acclaimed Mahler cycle continues with the
mighty Fifth, the centerpiece
of the season. Complemented by a stirring Beethoven overture,
and moving music by Hindemith featuring MDSO Principal Violist Christine
Bock.

•November 16/17/18-- Musical Theatre (Subscription
No. 3)
This year’s Kirkland musical is My
Favorite Year, based on the hilarious film starring Peter O'Toole
and Mark Linn-Baker, recreated for the stage by Ahrens and Flaherty,
the team that brought us Lucky Stiff and Ragtime.
•December 15th--Nutcracker Ballet
The Moscow Ballet returns to Kirkland with their
acclaimed production of Nutcracker, this year with MDSO providing
live music in the pit!
•December 16th--Advent Services
The MDSO chamber orchestra joins the musicians
of Central Christian Church
in services of the season. A beautiful Decatur holiday tradition.
•February 2nd--Young Artists
Concert (Subscription No. 4)
Our annual midwinter celebration of young talent, featuring the winners
of
Millikin’s Concerto/Aria competition and a side-by-side performance
with the
Decatur Youth Symphony Orchestra, along with a major Brahms Symphony.

Dr. Brad Holmes conducts MDSO and the University Choir in music by Bach
drawn from three sacred works, along with three complementary works for
chamber orchestra. Millikin faculty are featured throughout the
evening, including MDSO principals Laurie Glencross, Tina Nicholson,
and Randy Reyman, and vocalists Sheherezade Panthaki and Daniel Carberg.
