From the pure sounds of the Renaissance to the robust qualities of major choral/orchestral works, the Millikin University Choir celebrates a broad variety of styles and genres.  Rather than identifying itself with a particular choral sound, the choir showcases its reputation for tonal diversity.  Consequently, the group strives to master a distinct tone and articulation for each piece in its repertoire, based on historical precedent.

The choir’s diversity in style is well matched by their unique performance schedule.  From schools to churches to major auditoriums, the choir seeks to bring a unique blend of warmth and artistic excellence to audiences of every description.  The choir has performed in such remarkable settings as the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. and Cathedral Santo Domingo, the first cathedral in the New World.  They have sung invitation concerts in England at York Minster, Canterbury Cathedral and Norwich Cathedral.  But their performance schedule has also included such unusual locations as St. Vincent’s School for the Handicapped in Port au Prince, Haiti and street performances in Santiago, Dominican Republic.  The choir will tour China and Taiwan in May, 2008.

The Millikin University Choir has performed for three regional conventions of the American Choral Director's Association (ACDA) as well as state MEA conventions in both Indiana and Illinois.  The choir was recently honored with the invitation to sing at the National Convention of ACDA in Miami.  The choir has produced four CDs on Millikin’s First Step label.

Annual tours throughout the United States punctuate the choir’s already busy performance calendar.  The schedule of the choir includes concerts, university functions and special events, demanding that members be among Millikin’s finest students.

The 55-voice University Choir is one of six choral ensembles on the Millikin campus involving more than 250 students.  Choir members represent a variety of majors, underscoring Millikin’s philosophy of music as a vital part of a well-rounded education.
