The Millikin University School of Nursing is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission – North Central Association.. Our undergraduate program (BSN, RN-BSN) is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. We offer:

• The BSN for students who wish to complete a baccalaureate nursing degree in order to be eligible to take the State Licensure Exam in any state in the U.S.

• The RN-BSN for those students who have graduated from an accredited NLN associate degree or diploma school of nursing, who are already RNs, and who wish to earn their baccalaureate nursing degree in order to advance their career opportunities.

• The MSN with tracks in Clinical Nurse Leader or Nurse Educator for RNs who have their BSN and desire to increase their opportunities for nursing leadership positions in clinical sites and nursing education (The initial CCNE accreditation visit for our MSN program is scheduled 10/10/2007).

When you enter our program, you are assured of the fact that 100% of the SON faculty holds a master’s degree in nursing and brings a wealth of professional experience to the curriculum to facilitate your learning. With 46% of our School of Nursing faculty holding earned doctorates, our program surpasses the national average of 40%. In addition to their teaching excellence and their service as your academic advisors, our faculty members are committed to the profession of nursing and participate in a myriad of professional activities. You will find that these committed School of Nursing faculty members believe in putting STUDENTS at the center of their work in the School of Nursing and providing them with opportunities for engagement.

We are committed to delivering on the promise of education as described in the mission of the University. We prepare students for professional success. Our students have a 100% placement rate and are highly sought by prestigious health care facilities across the country including The Mayo Medical Center in Minnesota, the Barnes-Jewish Hospital, in St. Louis, and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. The BSN curriculum prepares our students to practice evidenced-based care within an ethically-grounded framework, and to succeed in graduate education where they will become future leaders in the nursing arena. We prepare students for democratic citizenship in a global environment. Our nursing curriculum is soundly based both upon the liberal arts and the natural sciences. This interconnectedness places our graduates in the unique position to work with individuals from a variety of cultures, to think critically, and to act as advocates for our patients’ well-being – both within and outside of the formal health care system. We prepare students for a personal life of meaning and value. Our students have the opportunity to be integral, vital members of the University community, participating in campus leadership, service learning, outreach programs, social life, and co-curricular opportunities. The School of Nursing curriculum allows students to pursue coursework toward a minor in areas of interest (business, dance, psychology, modern language, etc.) and to participate in co-curricular activities (sports, choral activities, Homecoming events, etc.) with the support of the faculty.

The School of Nursing faculty earnestly believes that the best nurse is one who is well-rounded both professionally and personally. We also believe that this University can help you to become that nurse. Please take the opportunity to visit us on campus!
