Christine Smith
M.M.E. Early Childhood Music Education, University of Hartford
B.M., University of Hartford (The Hartt School of Music)
Christine Smith began teaching courses at Millikin in 2002, after moving to Decatur from Connecticut with her husband, Neal. Her capacities at Millikin have included teaching courses for both traditional and PACE students and supervising student teachers. Prior to her work at Millikin, she enjoyed eight years of teaching band, general music, and choirs in elementary schools in New York, Connecticut, and Illinois. She has brought her expertise to the Millikin Preparatory Department, where Christine teaches both KinderChoir and Level I choir in the Millikin Children’s Choir Program and Music and Movement classes for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. When she is not teaching, she can be found at home taking care of (and singing with) her two young daughters.
"As someone who worked on a Masters degree while teaching full-time, I really appreciate that the PACE program offers working people the chance to earn a degree in a reasonable amount of time. Taking more that two courses each semester helps maintain continuity within the program as well. It is a lot of work, but definitely worth it!"
"I love teaching for the PACE program. The students have been out in the world and have so many experiences to share; moreover, they work hard and achieve to a high level. The course content is not watered-down – it’s rigorous, yet the students strive to meet each goal. It’s rewarding to see the students achieve to a high level in a few short weeks."
