This 3-credit course can be counted for US Studies, Culture
Track, or Electives credit.
Participants will explore the cultural and economic impact
of immigration on the United States. Immigrant groups that
entered the US through Ellis Island will be studied along
with personal accounts given by family members of immigrants.
Genealogy exploration will be introduced.
Background material will be presented prior to the trip
to New York City to help enhance understanding of the present-day
city and the cultural areas to be visited.
Tours in New York City will include ethnic areas, Ellis
Island, museums, and city landmarks.
Intro to Theatre :
This 3-credit course can be counted for Fine Arts or
Electives credit.
Participants will learn about theatre history and the
development of New York theatre. Class members will develop
an appreciation of theatre by reading, analyzing, and
discussing a recent play. Understanding will be furthered
by exploring different aspects of live theatre performance,
including script, characterization, makeup, costumes,
lights, sound, and set design.
Knowledge will be applied by critiquing the theatre
performances attended on the trip.
Tour will include a minimum of five play performances,
a seminar with an actor, visits to museums, Radio City
Music Hall, landmarks, and sights of New York City.
