PACE Names Director
Congratulations to our new PACE Director! Angela Ambers-Henderson has accepted the position as Director of PACE. She has served as the Interim Director for several months. She also will continue her role as PACE Faculty Coordinator for the Criminal Justice program.

National Honor Society for PACE Students
PACE now has an honor society for non-traditional students. Our organization is the Phi Delta chapter of the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society. Non-traditional/adult students represent nearly 50% of today’s college students, a significant group worthy of honor and recognition.

Alpha Sigma Lambda is a national honor society that recognizes the special achievement of adults who accomplish academic excellence. The Society was established in 1945-46 to honor superior scholarship and leadership in adult students. To this day Alpha Sigma Lambda is not only the oldest but also largest chapter-based honor society for adult learners. Students are selected for membership based on the following criteria:
  • 24+ credit hours attended at Millikin University
  • At least 12 credit hours must be earned in courses in Liberal Arts/Science
  • Minimum of 3.5 on a 4.0 cumulative GPA
  • Members shall be selected only from the highest ten percent of the class who meet the criteria
  • Induction by invitation only
Membership brings a number of benefits:
  • Motivation for students to achieve academic and leadership excellence
  • Publication of a semi-annual national newsletter
  • Scholarship opportunities
  • Pin
  • Certificate
  • Honor stole for commencement
  • Recognition of the achievement
There will be an induction ceremony April 25 for new members. For more information about Alpha Sigma Lambda, please visit www.alphasigmalambda.org.

New Credit Hour Limit
Please be aware that there is a new credit hour limit for students that goes into effect July 1, 2008. PACE students are allowed to take up to 18 credit hours per semester. If you have questions regarding this change, please see your advisor.

Mirinda Rothrock— Organizational Leadership at Work

There are many reasons why adults choose the PACE program to complete a degree. Mirinda Rothrock is an example of someone who finishes a bachelor’s degree not because her job demands it, but because she demands it.

College Degree! Who Cares?

Do the numbers 63, 44 and 34 have any meaning to you? Suppose we do this: $63,000, $44,000, and $34,000. Now, which of these numbers would you prefer?

According to the 2004 data presented by the Bureau of the Census, an individual with a high school degree can look forward to earning approximately $34,000 a year. With an Associate’s Degree from a Community College, that same individual would earn $44,000. Add two more years of education and receive a Bachelor’s Degree and the annual earnings increase to $63,000.... More
