What is Sorority Life All About?

A recent event for all the sorority women included learning self-defense.

Friendship

Making the choice to go greek is one of the best opportunities to make friends. You will see three different chapters here at Millikin and, if you choose to do so, join one of them to be a lifetime sister. You will learn your sorority's history and take steps toward your own initiation into the bond of sisterhood. Dinners, study groups, meetings and a number of other activities allow you to take part in getting better acquainted with sorority life and your sisters. These sisters will share many experiences - rejoicing in the good times and being your support during the difficult ones. The friendships and sisters can be priceless throughout the rest of your life.
Scholarship
Scholarship is one of the things that the Panhellenic community prides itself on. Each chapter on campus is above the All-Women's average for the university and has specific guidelines that the chapter members must follow in order to maintain their membership. Each chapter provides their membership with a scholarship chair to assist the members in finding good ways to study and assistance if it is necessary. The scholarship chair also designs activities for the sisters to do together to assist each other. Many times, sisters get together to work on homework because they share like majors and like classes.
Leadership
There are a wealth of opportunities to get involved in each chapter as well as the Panhellenic council and Millikin as a whole. Each chapter has a number of executive positions, assistant positions and minor offices that give each member a opportunity to push herself and do her best. From the chapter president to the public relations chair to the community service sponsor, everyone can have a hand in making their chapter run smoothly. Each member is, also, encouraged to get involved in on campus activities such as working with first year students as Orientation Leaders, holding positions in campus organizations or being Resident Assistants in the Residence Halls.
Philanthropy
Each chapter has a philanthropy organization or cause that they donate several hours of their time to and work to raise money for each year. Nationally, the organizations put their time towards domestic violence, the children of St. Jude's Hospital and Literacy. In the Decatur community, each chapter has spent time raising money for the local domestic violence shelter, reading to children and being mentors at schools in the community and assisting with Habitat For Humanity. Continuing to learn and grow while assisting others is a cherished tradition of sorority life.
