Health Survival Tips for Successful Spring

As the semester unfolds we are surely feeling the pressure to meet deadlines, and complete projects to which we have committed. Demands for a student's time seem overwhelming and can be very stressful. We would like to suggest you and your student consider giving one or two of these ideas a try.

6 ways to manage STRESS:

  • Help your student change the way they look at things. How a student views events may be more stressful than the actual event.
  • Help your student focus on concerns, not worries. A concern can be changed, such as setting the alarm clock if they need to get to class on time. A worry is something they can't do anything about, like getting caught in a terrorist attack!?
  • Encourage them to keep a journal. Have your student write about their feelings, good and bad, not just what is happening in their life.
  • Help your student to clarify their goals and values. Students should identify the things they have to do and the things they want to do. As much as possible, they should go for the things that have meaning and give them pleasure. Don't let negative moods distract them from their goals.
  • Have your student take time out of every day to relax. Listen to music. Meditate. Read. Do anything they enjoy.
  • Help your student get moving. Daily physical activity boosts body, mind, and spirit.
