Dear Millikin Family Members:

At Millikin University, spring is the season for celebration.

For members of the Millikin community, spring is the season for recognition.  At the time of this newsletter’s publication:

  • 395 students in the traditional and PACE programs have applied for participation in Spring Commencement, which takes place on Saturday, May 17th.
  • 134 student awards are slated to be presented at the 2008 Honors Convocation, which takes place on Thursday, April 24th.
  • Over 170 student presentations are slated for the 1st Annual College of Arts & Sciences Celebration of Scholarship, which takes place on Friday, April 25th.
  • Over 164 credit-bearing student internships are underway within the traditional and PACE programs.
For the family members of rising Millikin graduates, spring is the season for festivity and for reflection.  As commencement approaches, graduating seniors and their family members are looking to the future with an even mix of excitement and uncertainty.  Although many of our May graduates have already secured employment or are continuing their education within a graduate program, there remains a sense of the unknown that comes with leaving familiar surroundings to blaze uncharted territories.  To the family members of graduating seniors, take comfort in the knowledge that your students’ time at Millikin has prepared them for professional success, democratic citizenship in a global environment, and a personal life of meaning and value.  Further, rising graduates – and their family members - will forever be treasured members of the Millikin community.

For the family members of students returning in the fall, spring is the season for preparation.  Perhaps your student is exploring one of Millikin’s many exciting summer course offerings, or planning a study abroad excursion, or working to secure the all-important internship.  To the family members of continuing students, we renew our pledge to uphold Millikin’s mission to deliver on the promise of education, and we anxiously await your students’ return in August.

Spring is the season for celebration.  Let the festivities begin!
