Lori Kerans steps down as Director of Athletics Millikin University began a nation-wide search for a new Director of Athletics and Recreation in order to allow current AD and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Lori Kerans to devote her full attention to the Millikin women’s basketball program. “I feel the best way I can contribute to Millikin’s future success is to concentrate on coaching the women’s basketball team,” said Kerans. On July 1, Kerans will acquire the new positions of Senior Women’s Administrator and Student-Athlete Advisory Council advisor.
Women’s Basketball Senior Lindsay Ippel became Millikin's career scoring leader on Jan. 12 inMillikin's 68-63 upset of No. 5 ranked Ill. Wesleyan in Bloomington. She is averaging 25.8 points per game leading both Division II and Division III schools in scoring. Ippel is a four-time CCIW Player of the Week, a member of d3hoops.com Team of the Week and the National Preseason Player of the Year.
Men’s Basketball After following Head Coach Mark Smith to Millikin, junior Tunde Ogunleye did not waste time finding his place on the Big Blue men’s basketball team. He leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.6 points pergame. He ended Decemberon a high note after being named CCIW Player of the Week (12/31/07).
Swimming Junior Brian Stryzek and freshman Lauren Strimbu were recently selected as CCIW Swimmers of the Week. Strimbu placed second at the Monmouth Invite, recording her personal best times in the 200 Free, 100 Free and 1,650 Free. Stryzek recorded a personal best time in the 100 breaststroke.
Track Two school records were set on the track by two freshman runners. Domonique Irons got the meet started by breaking the 60-meter dash record by more than one tenth of a second in 8.07. The next record fell when Abby Parsons broke the 600-meter record by more than 8 seconds (1:44.84). Freshman Ashley Thomasma also broke the old record, but finished just behind in 1:49.11 to claim the No. 2 spot on Millikin’s all-time list.
Wrestling Junior Mario Sullivan recently placed sixth at the North Central Invitational. Sullivan posted a 3-1 record. The sixth place finish came on the heels of his second place finish at the Indiana Little State Tournament, where he finished with a 3-1 record.
