Date: November 3, 2007, 12:30 AM Object:Comet Holmes Description: During the last week of October 2007, this 12.5 mag. comet unexpectedly brightened to a second magnitude object, visible with the naked eye. While the cause of this event is still under question, it gives astronomers an amazing object to view and photograph. In this image, you can make out the tail of the comet, which appears to be very short. This is because Comet Holmes is moving almost directly away from us. Currently this object appear half way between the constellation Cassiopeia and M45, the Pleiades Photo Credit: Bobby Arn, Shae Trumpy, Rachel Trumpy Location: Requarth's Observatory, Millikin University, Decatur, IL Telescope: Parallax Instruments 20" Ritchey-Chretien Camera: Canon EOS Rebel XTI ISO-1600, 7x30sec Processed: Registax, MaxIm DL, Microsoft Digital Image Suite |
