Date: May 25, 2007 Object: Swan Nebula; Horseshoe Nebula; Omega Nebula; Lobster Nebula; M17 Description: This emission nebula of many names is located in the constellation Sagittarius some 4,900 light-years away. The luminous material is estimated to extend 40 light-years across. With an apparent magnitude of 7.0, it is difficult to see the low-luminosity material.
