Why did you come to Millikin or why are you interested in physics?

I shopped around for colleges for the better part of a year, starting somewhere around April ’05. First I had a really really big list and then I narrowed that list down to three. Three schools of about the same size, same financial aid packages, and vastly different under-the-hood atmospheres. Around April ’06 I was able to throw out one and then it got down to the real nitty gritty. I visited both schools, talked to people that went there, pestered professors with emails, until I finally realized that Millikin’s program was just better for me. The professors at Millikin that I talked to actually cared, they knew that I had applied for honor’s, they knew that I had good SAT scores, and they knew what I needed to hear to get me to come: personalized attention.

I finalized my plans on coming to Millikin because the physics professors explained that as an undergrad I would be able to participate in my own research projects and get paid to do it! At other small liberal arts universities, like Millikin, undergraduates rarely get to do research or, if they do, it involves assisting some professor with an existing project. With the personalized attention of a small school and a research emphasis like that of a large state school, coming to Millikin was a no-brainer.
